BEAVERS SWEPT BY HAWKS

Just one day after having one of the worst pitching performances in school history on Thursday the offense had their worst performance of the year on Friday as ARC got shutout on three hits at home on Friday.  Freshman LHP Wyatt Winalski (San Juan) pitched better than his line would indicate as he handled Cosumnes River fairly easily in the 1st, 3rd and 4th innings.  In the 2nd inning a two out triple followed by a single allowed the Hawks to go up 3-0 early.  In the 5th inning after getting the leadoff hitter out on two pitches Winalski just lost control and walked three batters in a row, then allowed a double and a sac fly as CRC went up 6-0.  Through 4 innings Winalski had only thrown 55 pitches and had not thrown three balls to a batter before walking three in a row.  Sophomore Matt Kelly (Oak Hills) came on in relief and threw 2 2/3 innings.   He left with runners at 2nd & 3rd with two outs and closer Christian Lucero (River City) in to try and get the last out.  Lucero jammed the hitter and got a weak ground ball to the left side but it tipped off Lucero’s glove for an infield single allowing the 7th run to score.  It was the first time all season that the Beavers have been shut out and they managed just three hits, two by freshman C Drake Rossi (Temecula Valley).  The Beavers will suit up net week against Santa Rosa JC, with Tuesday being at Beaver Field at 2:30 p.m.  Thursday will be at Santa Rosa and Saturday back at ARC at 1:00 p.m.
