Late FG Gives Football Win Over Sac City
On a hot September day, American River College and Sacramento City College battled in a slug fest on the football field.
The Beavers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a Zach Schreiner 22yd field goal. Sacramento City would respond with a 1 yard run by Ben Partee to give the Panthers a 7-3 lead in the second quarter.
Before the end of the half, the Beavers would retake the lead with a 20 yard touchdown pass from Matt Carlisle to Grayson Barnes. However, Sacramento City would respond in the third quarter with a 15 yard touchdown pass from Ben Partee to J. Brenes, giving the Panthers a 13-10 lead.
The Beavers would cut into the lead on a safety after a Sacramento City snap sailed over the head of the punter, making the score 13-12 Sacramento City College.
With less than two minutes left in the game, the Beavers would have the ball for the final time. After a huge 4th down conversion, the Beavers were able to get the ball into field goal range for kicker Zach Schreiner. With 5 seconds left in the game, Zach Schreiner kicked a 50 yard field goal to give the Beavers the lead and the win 15-13.
The Beavers will be back in action on a short week, as they travel to play Laney College on Friday, September 9th at 7 PM.
