HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Carvin and Haysbert both receive first all-league award

Two members of the American River College men's basketball team were named First-Team All-Big 8 Conference. Sophomores Chris Carvin and Chad Haysbert were among the list of eleven players that were honored.

Both men played integral roles in helping the team to an improved 12-14 record and their first trip to the postseason in three seasons. The Beavers exited in a heartbreaking first-round loss at Merritt College, 63-62. Merritt eventually made it all the way to the Final Four of the State Playoffs.

In his second year in a Beaver uniform, Chris Carvin led the team from the point guard position. In 23 total games, Carvin averaged 10.7 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds. He led the Big 8 Conference in total assists with 150, and was third in total steals with 45. His assist total was good for the eighth best mark in the state.

Forward Chad Haysbert manned the middle and played multiple positions for an American River squad that saw its platoon of big men slowly dwindle throughout the season. He played in all but one game, averaging 13.3 points on an exceptional 62.4% field goal shooting, to go along with 8.5 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals. Haysbert's 62.4% field goal percentage ranked seventh amongst the state for players who took over 100 total shots. His 213 total rebounds were third in the conference and his 35 blocks were second.
