February 15, 2007

ARC 89, Sacramento City 65 19-14 Overall 6-6 Conference

The Beavers finished Big 7 play with a big win over the Panthers.  Five players scored in double figures for ARC, which jumped out to an early lead, led by 23 at the half, and never looked back.  Joey Shank and OJ Manning each connected for 15 points; Shank hit four three-pointers and Manning followed his torrid shooting performance on Tuesday with a 5-for-9 performance against Sac City.  Wendale Farrow contributed 13 points, Tyler Brown added 12, and Jake Kernodle finished with 10 to lead a balanced offensive attack.

ARC 62, Delta 59 18-14 Overall  5-6 Conference

The Beavers offense got some juice from OJ Manning, who ignited his team with three first-half three pointers, and then came back with three more in the second half as ARC nipped the Mustangs and kept playoff hopes alive.  Manning, who finished with 18 points, hit his first three treys and finished the game 6-of-8 from behind the arc.  Tyler Brown finished with 13 points, and Wendale Farrow added 12 to lead the Beavers’ offense.

Diablo Valley 62, ARC 48 17-14 Overall 4-6 Conference

The Beavers had difficulty sustaining offense against the first-place Vikings and dropped the Big 7 contest.  ARC received 12 points and six rebounds from Wendale Farrow and 10 points from Tyler Brown, but the Beavers were ice cold in their own gym, hitting only 33% of their shots from the floor.  Diablo Valley connected on over 50% of its shots, including 10 of 20 from beyond the three-point line.

ARC 78, Santa Rosa 72  17-13 Overall   4-5 Conference

The Beavers snapped a three-game losing streak with the home win over the Bear Cubs.  ARC built a 12-point lead at the half and then withstood a Santa Rosa run to stay in the playoff hunt.  Joey Shank led the Beavers with 25 points, connecting on 5 of 10 three point attempts.  Wendale Farrow muscled in 10 points and 10 rebounds while Tyler Brown added 14 points and Nelson Ekeh chipped in 11.

Sierra 80, ARC 70 16-13 Overall 3-5 Conference

The Beavers struggled again with their defense and saw their playoff hopes diminish with the loss to the Wolverines.  ARC got behind quickly and then chipped away to trail by only four at the half, but timely three-pointers and near-perfect free throws kept Sierra in control of the game throughout the second half.  Jared Stigall led the Beavers with 16 points with Nelson Ekeh and Joey Shank contributing 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Cosumnes River 73, ARC 72 16-12 Overall  3-4 Conference

The Beavers dropped their second Big 7 game in a row when they allowed the Hawks to finish a lay up with 1.5 seconds left.  ARC led by as many as 17 in the second half before CRC chipped away and finally wore out the Beavers.  Joey Shank led the team with 21 points, followed by 14 points apiece from Tyler Brown and Jared Stigall and 11 by AJ Gold.  ARC could not overcome missed free throws and turnovers in the final minute.

Sacramento City 74, ARC 71 16-11 Overall  3-3 Conference

The Beavers came out flat against the host Panthers and dropped into third place in the Big 7 with the narrow loss.  Sacramento City hit nine three-pointers, seven in the second half, to keep the momentum away from ARC.  The Beavers had five players in double digits, led by Joey Shank’s 19.  Jared Stigall finished with 14 points, AJ Gold had 12, and Tyler Brown and Nelson Ekeh each added 10.

ARC 66, Delta 64  16-10 Overall 3-2 Conference

Jared Stigall connected on a three-point shot with .01 seconds left on the clock as the Beavers upset the visiting Mustangs and moved into a four-way tie for second place in the Big 7.  Tyler Brown turned in a 24-point, 11-rebound, and three-steal performance, and Joey Shank hit for 20 points as ARC kept the game close enough for a little luck at the end of regulation.  After completing the four-point play at the end of the game, Stigall finished with 10 points.  ARC made 12 of 17 free throws in the second half to keep the game in reach.

Diablo Valley 53, ARC 47 15-10 Overall 2-2 Conference

With first place in the Big 7 on the line, the Beavers could not overcome a poor start as the Vikings remained unbeaten in conference play.  ARC did not score in the first four and a half minutes of the game, trailing 8-0 before AJ converted a three-point play.  Over the next 35 minutes, the Beavers outscored the DVC 47-45, and trailed by only three with just under 10 seconds left in the game.  The Vikings converted key free throws at the end to seal the win.  Joey Shank, who hit three three-pointers in the final few minutes, led ARC with 11 points.

ARC 67, Santa Rosa 57 15-9 Overall  2-1 Conference

Playing the Bear Cubs for the fourth time this season, the Beavers bolted to a 20-2 run to start the second half and take a lead that they would hold in the Big 7 win.  Wendale Farrow led ARC with 16 points while Jake Kernodle and Nelson Ekeh added 12 and 10 points, respectively.  Joey Shank, playing his first game in two weeks, chipped in eight points.


January 5, 2007

Sierra 65, ARC 60 14-9 Overall 1-1 Conference

Despite hold a lead for most of the first 30 minutes, the Beavers gave in to the Wolverines’ aggressiveness and dropped the league contest.  AJ Gold and Nelson Ekeh each finished with 14 points, and Tyler Brown added 12, but Sierra beat ARC on the boards for a 5-minute stretch that gave the Wolverines a lead they would not relinquish.

ARC 81, Cosumnes River 54 14-8 Overall 1-0 Conference

The Beavers opened Big 7 play with their hottest shooting performance of the season, rolling to a lopsided win against a good Hawks team.  Tyler Brown erupted for a career high 31 points, hitting on 12 of 14 shots, and Wendale Farrow added 24 points, aided by 3 of 4 shooting from behind the three point line.  Nelson Ekeh contributed nine points and 13 rebounds.


COLUMBIA COLLEGE CLASSIC
December 30, 2006
Cañada 77, ARC 61 13-8 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers played the Colts for third place in the tournament, but they turned in a sub-par performance as Cañada sliced up the ARC defense with lay ups and nine three-pointers.  Jared Stigall stepped up with 16 points and Tyler Brown finished with 13 to lead ARC’s offense.

Chabot 55, ARC 52 13-7 Overall 0-0 Conference

Playing another highly-ranked team in the state, the Beavers let a close slip away with missed free throws.  ARC made only 4 of 16 free throws in the three-point loss to the Gladiators.  AJ Gold was the only Beaver to reach double digits with 11 points, but eight other players scored in what turned out to a defensive battle.

ARC 70, Porterville 61 13-6 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened their final tournament of the season by holding off the Pirates.  Three players led the offense, which was without leading scorer Joey Shank, who sprained an ankle earlier in the week.  Wendale Farrow stepped up with 18 points and eight rebounds to lead ARC, while Tyler Brown added 11 points and Nelson Ekeh 10.  The Beavers had a 12-point lead at the half and almost let it slip away before regaining control of the tempo.

ARC 66, Santa Rosa 59 OT  12-6 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers played a lackluster first 30 minutes and trailed an aggressive Bear Cubs team by 16 points.  But ARC went on a 24-2 run over the next 7:45 to take the lead.  Santa Rosa answered with a three-pointer at the buzzer to put the game into overtime, but the Beavers defense allowed just four points and the offense was paced by a three-pointer and six-for-six free throws from Jared Stigall to earn the win. Joey Shank led ARC with 19 points, and Stigall finished with 13.

West Valley 79, ARC 74 11-6 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers had leads of 10 and 11 points in the first half, but the Vikings pressure got them back in the game before a shot at the buzzer gave them a three-point edge at halftime.  ARC was unable to sustain an effective offense against the constant trapping of the West Valley defense.  Joey Shank put up 21 points and Tyler Brown added 18.  Wendale Farrow finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

ARC 69, Feather River 61 11-5 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers got in the winner’s bracket with a solid performance against the Golden Eagles.  ARC was able to get an early lead and then steadily build it over the course of the game.  Four players finished with double figures, led by Tyler Brown’s 19 and nine rebounds.  AJ Gold added 15, and Joey Shank and Wendale Farrow each put in 11.

December 9, 2006
Delta 69, ARC 58  10-5 Overall   0-0 Conference

Playing their fifth non-conference game against a Big 7 team, the Beavers could not overcome the Mustangs’ run in the middle of the second half.  Delta held a one-point lead when the team went on a 10-point spree to build a lead it would not relinquish.  ARC, playing without leading scorer Joey Shank, received 14 points from Jared Stigall, 12 from Wendale Farrow, and 10 from AJ Gold.

ARC 65, Columbia 59 10-4 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers kept the potent Claim Jumpers offense in check en route to the win.  Columbia finished with 11 three-pointers, but ARC was able to offset the outside attack its own balanced offense.  Jared Stigall led the Beavers with 14 points while Jake Kernodle chipped in 13 points and Joey Shank 10.

ARC 79, Shasta 70 9-4 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers bounced back in the second round with a physical win over the Knights.  ARC went to the line 43 times in the contest, converting on 29 of them (67%) to stay on top of Shasta.  Joey Shank led all scorers with 24 points, Tyler Brown erupted for 19, and Jared Stigall added 11 to lead the Beaver offense.

Sequoias 55, ARC 54  8-4 Overall  0-0 Conference

Opening the Modesto Tournament against a strong Giants squad, the Beavers let one get away from them as they missed seven free throws and too many wide open looks in the one-point loss.  Wendale Farrow poured in 13 points to lead ARC, and he was followed by 11 each from Joey Shank and Jake Kernodle while Tyler Brown added 10.

ARC 73, Santa Rosa 65   8-3 Overall 0-0 Conference

In the consolation game, the Beavers took on the Bear Cubs for the second consecutive tournament and again prevailed.  After starting off sluggishly, ARC got the offense in gear to jump out to a 37-27 lead at the intermission.  But Santa Rosa chipped its way back into the game with some timely shooting and solid defense.  Joey Shank hit seven three pointers en route to a 28-point performance.  Freshman point guard Jared Stigall added 12 points, and Tyler Brown finished with 10.

ARC 62, Sacramento City 57 7-3 Overall 0-0 Conference

In the second round of the Beaver Classic, the Beavers took on the cross-town rival Panthers and held on to win. ARC again struggled to find offensive rhythm, but Wendale Farrow stepped up and produced a career-high 26 points to ignite the offense. Joey Shank added 14 points, and Tyler Brown contributed 10 to lead the scoring.

West Hills 52, ARC 46 6-3 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened their tournament and their first home of the game of the season against a strong Falcons squad, and came out on the short end of a defensive battle.  ARC held the high-scoring West Hills to just 52, but the Beavers could only generate 46 points due to a strong defensive effort from West Hills and ARC missing 12 free throws.  Joey Shank and Wendale Farrow each had 10 points for ARC, which led 21-20 at the half.  AJ Gold and Nelson Ekeh each added eight points.

ARC 82, Los Medanos   71  6-2 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers were looking for a solid performance on the road against a good team, and ARC responded with possibly its best game of the season, topping the Mustangs with a stingy, physical defense and balanced scoring.  Post players Jake Kernodle (19 points and 10 rebounds) and Nelson Ekeh (9 points, 11 rebounds), and Wendale Farrow (11 points, four rebounds) controlled the inside while guards AJ Gold (14 points and five assists) and Joey Shank (11 points) provided outside scoring.  Freshman guard Tyler Brown finished with his first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

ARC 62, Santa Rosa 59 5-2 Overall 0-0 Conference
The Beavers bounced back in the third round game by grinding out a tough win over the disciplined and short-manned Bear Cubs.  Wendale Farrow led ARC scorers with 16 points, and Jared Stigall added 11 points, five assists, and five steals to pick up the Beavers in the second half.

Diablo Valley 00, ARC 00 4-2 Overall 0-0 Conference
In the second round of the tournament, the Beavers played a strong first half to stay with the Vikings, but DVC’s quick spurt at the start of the second half put ARC in a hole from which it could not recover.  Tyler Brown topped ARC scorers with 11 points, and Nelson Ekeh added 10 as the Beavers finished with a season-low in point production.

ARC 55, Foothill 49 4-1 Overall  0-0 Conference
In the rematch, the Owls made adjustments to slow down the Beavers’ offense, and ARC held on for the narrow victory to open the Shasta Tournament.   Joey Shank put up 20 points and dished five assists to lead ARC, and Mike Selling added 10 to help lead the Beavers into the winner’s bracket.

ARC 81, Lassen 59  3-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

The Beaver made the long trip to Susanville and came back with a convincing win over the Cougars.  Four players finished in double figures as the team took an early lead and gradually built it to a comfortable margin.  Joey Shank had a season-high 25 points, hitting on six three-pointers, and Wendale Farrow added 13 points, Mike Selling had 12, and Tyler Brown put in 11.

ARC 66, Foothill 52 2-1 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers took third place in the tournament with a solid win over the Owls.  Complementing its strong defensive performance, the ARC offense executed effectively to provide balanced scoring.  The top scorer in the game was A.J. Gold, who finished with 17 points.  Joey Shank added 12, and seven other players contributed to the scoring.


November 10, 2006

San Francisco 58, ARC 49  1-1 Overall  0-0 Conference

In the second round of the tournament, the Beavers were matched up with the Rams, one of the North’s top teams, and had difficulty generating offense.  Despite producing only 20 points in the first half, ARC adjusted at both ends of the court and outscored CCSF in the second half.  Joey Shank again was high scorer for the Beavers with 17 points; Mike Selling was the only other player in double figures with 10.


November 9, 2006

ARC 92, Fresno City 86 1-0 Overall 0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened the season with a balanced scoring attack to hold off the Rams.  ARC, which dealt with the Fresno City press the entire game, finished with five players in double figures, led by Joey Shank’s 22 points.  The win put the Beavers in the winner’s bracket of the tournament in Santa Rosa.
