HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Northern California Team Payoff-Final

Men's Tennis April 18, 2015

ARC-0                                    Foothill-5

Conference: 8-0               Overall:15-2

The Beavers traveled to Los Altos to play The Owls from Foothill College for the Northern California team championship and the right to play the Southern California winner for the state title. It is the 3rd consecutive year that ARC has reached this point, but unfortunately they fell short in their bid in 2015. The doubles was going to be a key if the Beavers hoped to win the matchup. Having won 2 of the 3 doubles matches in their first meeting, the Beavers went in confident. However, it was not to be, as the Owls swept the Beavers, taking a 3-0 lead in to the singles. At #1 doubles ARC had two match points serving at 7-5, 40-15, but could not close it out.

Despite falling behind 3-0 after the doubles, ARC came out with great energy and tremendous grit and desire in the singles. It seemed as though every match was being contested like the dual team match was even. Initially Foothill seemed surprised at the Beavers energy, but eventually their greater experience won out, clinching the match with wins at #4 (Dylan King) and #6 (Nick Cardoza). Seppi Capaul led at #1 (7-6) and TJ Aukland was leading at #5 (6-1, 5-3) when the match was stopped. It was the end of another tremendous team season for the Beavers. They will finish the season at 15-2, ranked 2nd in Northern California, and potentially a 3rd straight year in the top 5 of the state rankings.
