The Beavers hosted the Folsom Lake College Falcons in their second conference match of the season. The highly improved Falcons came in to the match with a record of 4-0, including two 5-4 victories over perennially tough NorCal teams, Modesto and Chabot. The Beavers came out strong in the doubles, losing a total of just three games in the three matches. #2 Doubles (Justin Barton/Cody Duong) and #3 Doubles (Elias Burbick/Kadyn Silva) each won by a score of 8-0. The #1 Doubles team of Seppi Capaul/Alex Meliuk played well against the previously undefeated tandem of Sean Alves/Prajna Ta on their way to an 8-3 victory. Going in to the singles up 3-0, the Beavers continued their strong play, winning each match in straight sets. At the #1 position, Meliuk (ARC) beat Alves (FLC) in two close sets, 6-3, 6-4. Meliuk earned two breaks of serve and was not broken for the second straight match. He fought off two break points serving 4-3, 15-40 in the second set to hold for 5-3, and held for the match two games later. Other highlights included Dylan King (#4) getting the victory in his first match back since recovering from a broken foot and Justin Barton (#5) earning the most decisive victory on the day with a score of 6-2, 6-1 over Prajna Ta. The Beavers will next play the Shasta College Knights at home on Tuesday, February 23.
