Beavers go 2-1 Against SoCal Competition at Pfister Cup

3/19/22-3/20/22

Overall: 12-5     Conference: 5-0

The Beavers competed against some of the top teams from Southern California in the Pfister Cup. The event is named after Bakersfield tennis legend, Hank Pfister, and it features matchups between some of the top teams in Northern and Southern California. Competing alongside the Beavers for NorCal were Chabot and Foothill. The Representatives from SoCal included Ventura, Glendale, and Bakersfield.

ARC faced off first against the Glendale College Vaqueros. ARC beat Glendale by the score of 7-2. The rain-interrupted match was highlighted by Justin Le clinching the dual team match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #6, and a highly entertaining 7-6(3), 7-6(5) win at #1 by Ravi Nelson. On Day 2 the Beavers faced host school, Bakersfield College, stopping at clinch with a 5-0 victory. Brendan Moley and Sam Kassis stepped in to the lineup at #5 and #6 respectively, to seal the victory with dominant performances. The final match of the event for the Beavers was against undefeated SoCal power, the Ventura College Pirates. ARC was outplayed in the doubles, but rebounded in the singles, performing with energy and determination at every position. Ravi Nelson (#1 singles) played his best tennis in the big moments, winning his match 6-3, 6-4. Zac Prince (#3 singles) also competed admirably, battling back to win the 2nd set after losing the 1st, but fell just short in the 10-point breaker. The final score was 8-1 for the Pirates, but ARC had looks and now knows where their level will need to be at the end of the year if they want a look at the team state title. The Beavers will next play Arizona Christian University on Saturday, March 26th at the Donnelly-Freund courts.
