Micah Erwin and Ravi Nelson, the Beavers #1 doubles pairing, made a strong run through the state championships doubles draw, reaching the state semifinal and giving the eventual champions their toughest challenge. Erwin/Nelson were the top seeded team from NorCal and were matched up against the SoCal #8 seed, Alexander/Choi from El Camino in the first round. The Beavers won the encounter in straight sets which set up a matchup with the SoCal #4 seeded Koide/Lam from Ventura College in the quarterfinal. Again, the Beaver duo won a tough straight set match, earning a spot in the state semifinal. There, they would play state singles champion Arthur Bellegy and his partner Kiichi Ishida from Irvine Valley College. It was very high level match, in which the Beavers served for both sets, but were unable to close out either, losing the match 7-6(2), 7-6(3). “It is bittersweet because it is the best tennis Micah and Ravi have played together this year, but it hurts to lose a match where you felt you had chances.” Explained coach Bo Jabery Madison, “But at the end of the day we played our best tennis in the biggest event of the year, and I am proud of our boys for that.” The match closed out an incredible season for ARC men’s tennis. They reached the state team final, beat two four-year universities, went undefeated in individual match play in Northern California, and made a great run in the individual state doubles tournament.
