Beavers Sweep All Draws at MJC Invitational

The ARC men's tennis team won all nine flights of the MJC Invitational, earning their fifth title in the last six years of the event being played. The tournament is unique in that it is flighted, meaning each player competes in a separate draw against players from other teams that play the same number on their respective team ladder. The Beavers won all six singles flights without losing a set, and all three doubles flights dropping only a single set in the process. The event also put the the Beavers depth on display, as they used 11 different players.

In the singles, Ravi Nelson won the #1 draw, defeating Chabot #1 Arav Waghray by the score of 6-0, 6-1. Despite the lopsided score, it was a tough match, and Nelson was able to play his best tennis on the biggest points. At #2, Robin Sharma beat Chabot #2 Adam Linette 7-5, 6-2 in the final. The first set was a battle, with Sharma breaking Linette to win the set, and keeping the pressure on the tiring Linette to close out the second set 6-2. At #3-#6 the Beavers went relatively unchallenged. Micah Erwin (#3), Zac Prince (#4), Justin Le (#5), and Parker Perdue (#6) all won their draws without dropping more than 4 games in a single match.

In the doubles ARC was almost as dominant. Le and DJ Sobrepena won the #1 draw by beating Chabot #1 Linette/Waghray in two tough sets. At #2, Julian Bilbao and Jason Hom won a thrilling match against the Chabot tandem of Ben Deriquito and Spenser Lin Jones 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 to earn the title. The Beaver duo of Brendan Moley and Eli Norgauer did not drop a set en route to their championship in the #3 Flight.

The next competition for ARC will be when they play three matches in two days on a trip to the Fresno area to play Fresno Pacific University, Fresno City College, and Reedley College on 2/18 and 2/19.
