Martinez takes over as #1 in the US in the 800m among JC’s

The American River College men’s track & field team travelled the short trip across town to compete against the 4-years at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational. The Beavers came out of the blocks quickly by taking the top 2 spots in the NorCal rankings in the Steeplechase (Byron Chadwick, 9:59.73 and Billy Groth, 10:03.44). The 4x100m relay didn’t disappoint either, shaking off a sluggish start to the season by breaking the 42 second barrier by the slimmest of markings, clocking 41.99 (Luke Ramsay, Aedan Ming, Brian Lewis, Jack Haas). Next up was Cristian Martinez in the 800m. With a little help from some fine rabbit work by Gulab Singh, Cristian ran a great early season time of 1:51.45 to take over the fastest time in the US among JC runners. The 4x400 also shook off some early season rust to drop below 3:25 with a time of 3:24.98. Chris Buck hit a State “A” mark in the Shot Put with a throw of 48’2.75” in his first Shot Put of the year.

Next up for the Beavers is the Pat Ryan Invitational in Santa Rosa next Friday
