Audrey Garcia, a Freshman from Lodi High School, finished 6th at the Big 8 Conference Preview opener on August 27, 2021. The race, originally scheduled for competition at Folsom Lake Community College was rescheduled the night before the event due to the poor air quality index.  The current wildfires caused safety concerns, putting the first race of the season in jeopardy.  The Big 8 Conference Preview was not only the first event of the 2021 season, but the first competition since fall of 2019, due to the pandemic. The alternative site of American River College ended up hosting the event on their campus.  The course looped around the athletic fields, finishing in the track and field stadium. Garcia broke the 21- minute barrier, over the 3-mile course by clocking in at 20:59.  It was good enough for 6th overall in the field. 

After the race Garcia stated, "I did better than I thought I would this early season!"

Next up will be the Northern California Preview at Sierra College.
