Bio
Coach Teague is entering his second year at American River College as the assistant offensive line coach. Prior to coaching at American River, Coach Teague was Varsity Offensive and Defensive Line Coach at Antelope High School from 2012 through 2020. During Coach Teague’s time at Antelope, he coached thirteen (13) lineman who were able receive full or partial scholarships to play at the next level. Darren Echevaria (2012) was an All-American who went on to play for Air Force and finish his athletic career at University of Nevada, Reno. Other notable lineman that had played for Coach Teague are Leonard Hazewood (University of Idaho/ Sac State), Michael Okoroike (San Jose State), Anthony Baumgart (UC Davis), Ryan McCombs (Humbolt), Carter Sullivan (Navy/Sac State), and Dean Abdullah (Eastern Washington). Beside the thirteen lineman that went straight from high school to a 4-year program, there were many more that continued to play by attending community college or as a walk-on at a 4-year. Of all the players Coach Teague has been able to coach throughout his time the one that stands out the most would be his son Zach. After starting for 3 years on Varsity for his dad, Zach matriculated on to the College of Idaho where he earned a dual scholarship for football and track and field.
Coach Teague enjoys the relationships that are built with everyone he has coached long after their playing days are over. During a bye-week you can find him at a game watching one of his players compete at another school. He takes great pride in hearing back from his players and knowing they have become great men. Coach Teague has attended graduations and weddings of several former players. Next year Coach Teague has the honor of officiating a wedding one of his former players. Coach Teague says “Relationships are everything in this life, it’s all we have. If we are not building relationships and trying to help others, then what are we doing here?”
Coach Teague began coaching at a youth level when his youngest son wanted to play football. At the time, the local youth program had just begun, and they needed more coaches. Coach Teague had decided to coach but not on the same level as his son, he wanted Zach to have the football experience without having his dad in his ear. Along with coaching youth football and running his own company Coach Teague’s daughter was playing soccer and her team needed some help as well. What do you expect a coach to do when they see someone in need? They coach. He would show up to the field for a 2-hour practice with junior football practice then stay another 90 minutes to coach soccer. He says he loved every minute of it all and would not change it for the world.
Coach Teague grew up playing baseball and soccer and did not get into football until he went to San Juan High. He played along some great athletes and learned a lot of valuable lessons from his coaches along the way. After high school he moved to Missouri where he attended the University of Missouri, Columbia. After his college days were behind him, he decided to move back to California to be closer to family. He held several positions at various companies before starting his own firm in 2004. He went from a small 2-man operation to having over 15 employees (most of which had played for him at some point). He says one of the questions he asks candidates during an interview is “Have you ever played team sports?” The reason he asks is simple; people that have played teams sports understand something others do not. They understand there is a bigger picture, they also understand teamwork and being able to count one another. These valuable lessons were taught on the football field and continue in Coach Teague’s personal and professional life.
Coach Teague lives in Roseville with his wife Elizabeth. They have 2 sons (Aaron and Zach) and a daughter (Kirsten). Coach Teague and his wife both grew up in the Sacramento area. He and Elizabeth have been married for over 15 years. During his downtime you can catch Coach Teague on a golf course, at Disneyland or simply at home with Elizabeth and playing with their dogs.
