Bio

Coach Josh Crabtree returns for his fourth year on staff at American River College as the offensive line coach.  Youth, once again, was a defining characteristic of the offensive line at American River College in 2016.  Despite starting four freshman on the offensive line for the largest part of the season, the 2016 Beavers reached the state title game and finished ranked #5 in the country.  One of those freshman earned a Big 10 scholarship to the University of Minnesota on the heels of the 2016 campaign.  The 2015 campaign saw the offensive line pave the way for the Beavers to finish in the top 20 in the state of California in total offense.  In Crabtree’s first year on staff, the 2014 Beavers finished in the top 10 in many national polls. Heading into his fourth year leading the offensive line, Crabtree has seen his offensive linemen go on to earn scholarships to play in the SEC, Big 12, and Big 10 Conferences along with many other student-athletes continuing their playing careers at the Division I-AA, Division II, and NAIA levels.

Prior to joining the ARC staff, Crabtree coached at Sheldon High School for nine years. Before being named the head coach in December of 2009, Crabtree served as the head freshman and head JV coach, as well as varsity offensive coordinator. In Crabtree’s tenure as head coach, Sheldon student-athletes earned football scholarships to play in the Pac 12 (UCLA, Washington State) and Big Sky Conferences (Cal Poly, Sacramento State). Two other student athletes signed scholarships with Division I-A Independent institution University of Idaho. In addition, several Sheldon football players went on to play at the Division II, Division III, and NAIA levels.

Coach Crabtree was the head varsity baseball coach at his alma mater, Bear Creek High School in Stockton before coming to Sheldon High School. In his 5 year tenure at Bear Creek, 3 of his players earned baseball scholarships (Arizona State, University of Utah, and Missouri Baptist).  Originally from Stockton, Crabtree earned all-league and all-city honors in both football and baseball as a student-athlete at Bear Creek. Crabtree went on to play football and baseball at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In addition to a BA in Psychology, Crabtree also earned a Master’s Degree in Education.  Coach Crabtree and his wife Onallee live in Elk Grove with their two children Nari (10) and Nolan (8).
