Bio

Coach Doug Grush is in his fifthh year of his second coaching stint at American River College where he both played and previously coached.

Coach Grush started his playing career at Mira Loma High School as a two-way starter on the football team and Section Qualifier in Track and Field. To conclude his senior year Grush started in the 41st annual Optimist All Star Football Game.

In 1988, Grush started 11 games at American River College and was named the “Outstand Freshman Offensive Player” for the 7-3-1 Beavers. 1989 saw the American River College Football Team go 9-2, ranked in the Top-20 in the nation and Grush being named First Team All-State.

After two seasons at American River College, Grush earned a scholarship to Kansas State University. During his two seasons at Kansas State in 1990 and 1991, Grush started at both offensive guard and tackle and was part of what is widely regarded as the “Greatest Turnaround in College Football History.”

In 1992 Grush returned to Kansas State as a Student Assistant Coach while finishing his degree in Public Relations.

Upon returning home to Sacramento, Grush coached at his alma mater, American River College in 1993-1995 where he served as offensive line coach.

In 1996 Grush became offensive and defensive line coach at Bella Vista High School where he coached All-American Justin Bannan who went on to start for University of Colorado and enjoyed a 12 year NFL career.  

Grush was named Head Coach at Bella Vista in 1997. He served as head coach for the Broncos for 10 years.  In that time, he led stadium improvements such as permanent stadium lights and snack bar. Building Bella Vista into regular league title contenders, the Broncos make their first playoff appearance in 20 during the 2003 football season.

In 2008, Coach Grush became offensive line coach at Casa Roble High School where they finished 13-0 and Section Champions. In 2010 and 2011, he served as Offensive Coordinator. In 2011, the Rams finished with school records in yards per game (450 yards), points (45 per game) while only punting 18 times in 13 games.

In 2013 Grush returned to American River College as Quarterback coach. In game eight of that year quarterback Jake Bist threw for a school record 428 yards vs Modesto.  

Grush took over as Offensive Coordinator in 2014 when Coach Osterhout became head coach. That season saw the Beavers continue as one of the top offenses in the state. It also saw school records in receptions (67) and receiving yards (876) broken by Tyler Young.

Since 2013, Grush has coached six quarterbacks who have earned scholarships to play at the 4-year level.

Grush completed his Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State in 1992 and earned his Master Degree in 2004. He’s entering 24th year coaching football and his 21st year of teaching Physical Education at Bella Vista. He is married to wife Cindy and they have one son Kevin, who will be attending Kansas State University this year as an incoming freshman.
