Remembering Coach Michael Reid

Remembering Coach Michael Reid

On July 26, 2022, longtime assistant track and field coach, Michael Reid, passed away.  As one of his colleagues stated, Coach Reid was a "great coach, mentor, role model, motivational speaker, teacher, pastor, and more."

Coch Reid began his coaching career at American River College in the fall of 2005.  With his vision and creativity, Coach Reid developed programs and workouts for his athletes catering to their specific needs and events, propelling them to big accomplishments.  He prepared young adults to reach their goals and continue their journeys onward to D-I and D-II colleges.

In addition to his collegiate coaching responsibilities, he established Athletes Under Construction (AUC) Inc., an organization which provided athletic guidance and training to middle school through high school as well as collegiate preparation and recruitment.  Under AUC, ahtletes went through "The Factory" for training and conditioning.

His athletes kept him striving every day.  All about fitness and construction, he maintained his vision and strong will, motivating his athletes to exceptional heights, winning many championships and even having individuals show their talents on bigger stages such as the Olympic Trials.

Besides track, Coach Reid had a fondness for gaining knowledge.  He obtained numerous associate degrees over the years.  The most recent degree he received was an Associate of Arts, in Sociology from American River College, which he completed in May of 2022.

In September of 2017, Coach Reid was ordained as a minister.  He did not coach just in the physical sense; he was there for his community spiritually and lovingly.  He preached his word giving encouragement, a shoulder to lean on, and his own strength to those who needed it.
