CCCAA Baseball: Scoreboard l Standings
SACRAMENTO - 72 degrees, a little hazy and a chance for a series win was at stake Friday afternoon at Conway Field for the Cosumnes River College Hawks (8-8, 1-2 Big 8), who unfortunately lost 14-12 against visiting American River College in a baseball showdown of area rivals. The Hawks offense got off to a very hot start when freshman Gabriel Ramirez (Capital Christian HS) blasted his second home run of the week, a 3-run job that helped propel the Hawks to take a 4-0 lead heading into the second inning.
The top of the second inning did not fair well for the Hawks as ARC got seven straight hits and scored eight runs, all with two outs against starter freshman Alan Garcia (Sheldon HS). Sophomore Brett Graber (Capital Christian HS) hit a home run to left field in the second inning bringing in two runs and later in the third singled home a run. Cosumnes River fought hard all day long and tied the game up in the third inning scoring a total of five runs in the second and third innings. It just was not enough on the day yet the Hawks fought hard to make a come back in the later innings but fell short and are now 1-2 in Big 8 play.
Hayden Erickson had a three-run home run for the Beavers, finishing with 5 RBIs on the day. Right-fielder Cole Hurtate went 3-for-5 with an RBI while Garrett Glynn knocked in a pair. Pitcher Bennett Ohara was benefactor of American River's early scoring, pitching 3.1 innings and striking out four to earn the win.
Cosumnes River offensive highlights:
Jack Painter 3x6 2B
Gabriel Ramirez 2x5 HR 3 RBI
Brett Graber 2x4 3 RBI
Lakeal Morris 2x3
The Hawks head into this week where they will square off with nationally ranked San Joaquin Delta J on Tuesday in Stockton with a 2:00 pm first pitch.
