Bio

Matt is back and should be the Beavers opening day starter on the mound for the 2015 season.  He started the 2014 season in the bullpen but worked his way into the rotation and earned 2^nd team All-Big 8 Conference honors.  Matt emerged his senior year as a dominant pitcher at Bella Vista High School where he was the Capital Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2013, and an All-Metro selection.  Last year he came from the bullpen to be one of the more dominant pitchers in the Big 8 Conference, as he lasted into the 8^th inning in all 3 of his conference starts.  He had the 4^th highest strikeout per game ratio in conference play.  Matt struck out the 2^nd batter that he faced last year, against West Valley College on January 30^th.  He earned his first collegiate win in his first collegiate start, throwing 5 innings in the Beavers 8-1 win over the Bay Valley Conference Champion College of Marin on March 7^th.  He struck out 5 in that outing.  He struck out a season high 10 batters in 7 2/3 innings, allowing just 3 hits in the Beavers 2-1 win over Modesto JC on April 3^rd.   Matt participated in the Northern California JC Sophomore Showcase this past fall and struck out 4 of the 5 batters that he faced.   His parents are Sam and Becky Gunter.  Sam also played at A.R.C.

Coach Jumelet says, “Matt is set to have a dominant year.  We believe that we have a couple of starters in Matt and Jake Campbell who are as good as any two in the league this year.  Matt definitely proved it last year.  He has had success everywhere that he has pitched and I am sure that he will in the future.   He has had several D-1 schools show some interest in him and I am sure that he will be able to pitch at that level after this year.”
