Beavers' return home not so welcome

The four game winning streak is over. The Beavers first home game since a 7-4 victory over Solano College on February 10th ended in a 6-4 loss to Diablo Valley College on Thursday. The Vikings scored 4 of their 6 runs with 2 outs as Beavers starter Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) just couldn't finish a couple of the innings unscathed. He went a career high 7 2/3 innings, scattering 9 hits and walking 3, one of them intentionally. Offensively, the previously potent lineup just couldn't cash in on some opportunities, as the Beavers had 17 baserunners on the day, but only were able to push across 4 runs. The Beavers left at least two runners on in 5 of the 9 innings. RF Alex Gaskin (Jesuit) led the way with a pair of hits and LF Jimmy Lunardelli (Oakmont) had an RBI triple, his team leading third triple of the season.
The Beavers have the weekend off before traveling to Modesto on Tuesday, then back home on Thursday to face cross-town rival Cosumnes River, followed by a Friday trip to Diablo Valley College in Concord to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.
