Codina signs with Dominguez Hills

Sophomore RHP Ian Codina has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with Cal State Dominguez Hills, Beavers Head Coach Doug Jumelet announced.  Ian was an all-BIG 8 Conference pitcher as a freshman and was on track to have a great sophomore season, striking out 20 of the first 35 batters that he faced, before a bicep strain limited his time on the mound this season.  He missed 5weeks of the season.  He finishes up as the Beavers all-time leader in appearances with 43 and is 2nd in saves with 12.  He had interest from many schools, including several from the PAC-12 and other D-1 conferences, but settled on Dominguez Hills because of the size of the scholarship and the ability to stay in California.

"We are very happy for Ian.  He has worked very hard and bought into everything that (pitching) Coach Vancil asked him to do.  He came in as a starter who threw over the top and really flourished as a closer who throws from down under.  It takes guts to put that kind of trust in your coaches, to allow them to completely change what you have done your whole life, but Ian bought in and now he gets to see the rewards.  Good things truly do happen to good people", said Head Coach Doug Jumelet.
