Beavers drop close one to Sac City

Beavers drop close one to Sac City

Cross-town rival Sacramento City College was fresh off a sweep off a three game sweep of Sierra College in which the Panthers scored 33 runs but the American River College pitching staff limited Sac City to just four hits and two unearned runs.  Unfortunately the offense was stifled again as the Beavers managed just one run and suffered a 2-1 defeat at Beaver Field on Tuesday.  Freshman RHP Aiden Taylor (Rio Americano, pictured) allowed just two hits over seven innings while striking out a pair.  He only allowed a baserunner in three of his 7 innings.  Sophomore Greysen Pulsipher (Cosumnes Oaks) came on in relief and threw two innings recording four strikeouts.  Sac City got their two runs in the 6th inning after a leadoff single and a groundout that advanced the runner to 2nd.  A passed ball allowed the runner to get to third and then a ground ball to short allowed the run to score.  The throw to 1st on the ground ball sailed wide and pulled 1B Steven Langley (El Camino) off the bag.  After a fly out, with two outs Sac City CF Dan Sayre hit a pop-up behind 2nd base and RF Ian McIsaac (Davis) came in a couldn't make the sliding catch allowing the go-ahead run to score.

The Beavers out-hit the Panthers 8-4 on the day but just couldn't push across many runs.  Freshman LF Cole Hurtarte (Whitney) had a good day at the plate going 3x3 with a walk and an RBI while also stealing a pair of bases.  Sophomore C Casey DeMello (Valley Christian) added a leadoff double in the 5th inning, his 5th double of the season.

A.R.C. and Sac City continue their series Thursday at Union Stadium on the campus of Sacramento City College at 2:30 p.m.
