Former Beaver Steve Holm leads Illinois State to Regional Finals

It didn't take Steve Holm long to make an impact as a head coach at the Division 1 level.  After successful stints as an assistant coach at Sac State and Purdue University, the former Beaver player lead the Illinois State Redbirds to their first ever regional final and a 36-26 record in his first year.  Illinois State had a 14 win improvement over last year and the 36 wins was the most for the program since 2013.  The Redbirds had 5 players drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft that just ended on Wednesday, the most for the program since 2014.  Holm played for the Beavers in 1999 after having played at Cosumnes River College as a freshman.  After his stint at A.R.C. he played at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa Oklahoma where he finished his junior year 13th in the NCAA in batting average.  He was drafted by the Giants after his senior year at ORU and spent parts of three seasons in the big league, two with the Giants and one with the Minnesota Twins.
