BEAVERS WOES CONTINUE, FALL TO YUBA 8-6

After a promising 5-1 start to the season the American River College baseball team has dropped 5 straight, this time falling to Yuba College at Beaver Field 8-6 on Tuesday. The Beavers were chasing the 49ers all day. It started in the top of the first with one out sophomore 3B Jack Williamson (Jesuit) and freshman SS Bryce Sabatke (River City) made back-to-back errors. The Beavers then turned what they thought was an inning ending double play but the ball hit the base umpire, killing the play and allowing all of the runners to be safe and advance. The next batter for Yuba singled in a pair off of freshman RHP Kaden Clive (Delta) to put Yuba up 2-0. Yuba added a run in the third, another unearned run to go up 3-0. But ARC would take advantage of a Yuba error to get a run back making the game 3-1. Yuba extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the 5th, but the Beaver bats finally came alive in the bottom half of the inning with sophomore 2B Jayden Reynolds (Bella Vista) driving in a run and Bryce Sabatke driving in Reynolds with his first triple of the season. ARC then tied the game in the 6th thanks to an RBI double by freshman 1B Lance Sabatke (River City). The tie didn't hold for long as Yuba plated two runs in the 7th inning off of freshman RHP Ethan Palumbo (Antelope) thanks to a pair of doubles to right field and a two out single. But ARC got those runs right back, tying the score on a single to left by freshman CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) to make the score 6-6. But Yuba wasn't done, as they scored a pair in the top of the 9th off of freshman LHP Aidan Lieu (Rio Americano) and the Beavers went three up three down in the bottom of the 9th. The two teams will continue their three game set on Thursday at Yuba College at 2:00 pm.
