BEAVERS FIRST INNING NOT ENOUGH, DROP SERIES TO DELTA

The American River College baseball team got off to a fast start at Billy Hebert Field in Stockton on Thursday, scoring five runs in the top of the first on just two hits.  Freshman DH Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian) landed the big blow, a bases loaded double to clear the bases and put the Beavers up 4-0.  He would later score on a single by freshman C Grant Fletcher (Yuba City).  The Beavers would be outdone in the bottom of the first however as Delta scored 7 runs on just one hit.  Sophomore RHP Aidan Nielsen (Casa Roble) made his first ever start in an opener role but he only lasted 5 batters, walking two, hitting two and striking out 1.  Freshman Eli Campbell came on in relief and he wasn't any more effective, as he walked two and hit one, and he recorded his only out on a sacrifice fly.  Freshman RHP Kaden Clive (Delta) came on as the third pitcher of the first inning and got out of the jam.  Clive pitched well, holding the Mustangs scoreless until 6th inning after he issued his first walk followed by three straight singles.  During the time that Clive was limiting the Mustangs offense, the Beavers bats also fell silent, going three up-three down in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th innings.  ARC didn't score again until the 8th inning when sophomore RF Jonas Dyas (Folsom) hit his first collegiate home run, a solo shot over the left field fence.  Delta tacked on three more runs in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings to put the game out of reach.  The two teams will finish their three game series on Friday at Beaver Field at 2:00 pm
