BEAVERS CANT COMPLETE COMEBACK, DROP GAME 3 TO DVC

American River College had a chance to sweep Diablo Valley College on Friday at Beaver Field but couldn't quite get on top and fell 10-8. The Vikings scored in the 3rd inning off of starter Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) and never trailed the rest of the game, though the Beavers did tie the game at 4 apiece in the bottom of the 5th inning. After holding the Vikings scoreless in the 6th, DVC would pull away thanks to a couple of key hits in the 7th inning and a couple of ARC errors in the 8th. DVC tacked on a run in the 9th to seemingly put the game out of reach, 10-4. But ARC was not going to go down easily. Westbrook led off the 9th with a solo home run, his 4th of the season. 3B Bryce Sabatke (River City) got hit by a pitch and 2B Jayden Reynolds (Bella Vista) then singled. 1B Lance Sabatke (River City) then picked up his third hit of the day, an RBI single to make the score 10-6. Freshman LF Rylan Pope (McClatchy) then hit a sharp ground ball down the first base line that DVC's first baseman dove for and snagged, barely beating Pope to the bag for the first out. Pinch hitter Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian) then singled home Reynolds and Sabatke to make the score 10-8 and bring the tying run to the plate. RF Jonas Dyas (Folsom) then reached on an error and pinch hitter Cameron Johnson (Yuba City) singled to center to put the game winning run on first with one out. Pinch hitter Chris Cecchini (Lincoln) then struck out which brought Westbrook back up with a chance to tie the game or win it but he popped up to short on a 3-1 pitch ending the comeback bid.
The Beavers did win the BIG 8 Conference series against the Vikings and now will roll into Santa Rosa on Tuesday to take on the #1 ranked Bear Cubs.
