BIG INNING BOOSTS BEAR CUBS TO VICTORY OVER BEAVERS

BIG INNING BOOSTS BEAR CUBS TO VICTORY OVER BEAVERS

#1 ranked Santa Rosa JC used a big, 6 run 3rd inning to take game one of the series over American River College 8-6 at Santa Rosa on Tuesday.  The Beavers got on the board first thanks to an error by Santa Rosa's pitcher which allowed freshman SS Ramon Esparza (Roseville) to score in the top of the 3rd.  Santa Rosa tied the score in the bottom of the 3rd off of freshman Eli Campbell (Cordova), but then with two outs and two strikes, Santa Rosa's first baseman Josh Martin doubled in a pair of runs to put the Bear Cubs up 3-1.  Campbell would struggle to get the third out, as he allowed three more runs before giving way to freshman Kaden Clive (Delta) who was able to get out of the inning, but Santa Rosa was up 6-1.  Clive ended up pitching three innings in relief, giving up a single run in the 5th and 6th innings.  Sophomore RHP Ben Hanson (Woodland) pitched a scoreless 7th inning and freshmen Donny Supat (Yuba City) and Aidan Lieu (Rio Americano) combined to send the Bear Cubs down 1-2-3 in the 8th

The Beavers got back in the game in the 6th thanks to another Santa Rosa error and a sacrifice fly by 1B Lance Sabatke (River City).  ARC made it really interesting in the 7th with three runs, two of which came on a double to left by DH Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian).  The Beavers did get runners to first and second with one out in the 9th but were unable to come through with the big hit to tie the game.  The two teams play again, this time at Beaver Field on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
