BEAVERS CANT HOLD LEAD, DROP FINALE TO SANTA ROSA

BEAVERS CANT HOLD LEAD, DROP FINALE TO SANTA ROSA

Once again American River College was able to score 6 runs against the #2 pitching staff in the state but were unable to come out with a win as the Beavers fell 11-6.  Tuesdays 8-6 loss was only the 4th time all season that the Bear Cubs had allowed 6 or more runs in a game and Saturday was the 5th time.  As was the case in both games, a couple of defensive and pitching miscues cost the Beavers.  Santa Rosa jumped on top in the first inning off of freshman RHP Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) after a one out walk and then a two run home run put Sant Rosa on top 2-0.  The Beavers came alive in the 3rd inning though, scoring 6 runs, two on a double to right center by sophomore 2B Jayden Reynolds (Bella Vista) and another two on a bases loaded single to left by sophomore RF Jonas Dyas (Folsom).  After freshman C Eli Campbell (Cordova) capped off the scoring with a two out single the Beavers held a 6-2 lead.  Santa Rosa was able to chip away at the lead however, scoring a run in the bottom of the 3rd, then two in the 5th thanks to a defensive miscommunication between Reynolds and Westbrook on a ground ball to the right side. ARC held a 6-5 advantage going into the 6th inning but the Bear Cubs were able to tie the game on a sac fly.  Freshman LHP Aidan Lieu (Rio Americano) came on in the 7th but the first three batters he faced all got hits, two of them doubles to put Santa Rosa ahead 9-6.  Santa Rosa added a pair of runs in the 8th on a throwing error by 3B Bryce Sabatke (River City).  The Beavers were not able to score again late to make the game closer.

ARC moves on to play cross-town rival Sacramento City College next week as BIG 8 Conference play continues.
