BEAVERS WALK OFF SAC CITY IN 10 INNINGS- 7-6 ON POPE’S SINGLE

BEAVERS WALK OFF SAC CITY IN 10 INNINGS- 7-6 ON POPE’S SINGLE

After a rough week against top-ranked Santa Rosa last week the American River College baseball team got back in the win column on Tuesday with a 10th inning walk-off single by freshman Rylan Pope (McClatchy) to give the Beavers a 7-6 victory.  It was one of the sloppier games of the season for the Beavers who made 5 errors, walked 10 batters, hit two batters and had a balk called against them.  But the offense carried the day as the Beavers rattled of 18 hits, 4 of them by freshman 3B Bryce Sabatke (River City).  In the first inning with the Beavers trailing 1-0 Sabatke tripled to right field and then scored as the throw to third rolled into the dugout to put ARC up 2-1.  Later in the inning sophomore RF Jonas Dyas (Folsom) singled to right to score freshman LF Kaedin Bulock (Yuba City) who had walked earlier in the inning.  Sac City retook the lead, going up 6-3 after some shaky defense allowed 4 unearned runs on the day.  ARC got a run back in the 5th inning and then closed the gap to 6-5 in the 6th.  They threatened again in the 7th, loading the bases with one out but could not bring the tying run home.  The Beavers did end up tying the game in the 8th thanks to an RBI groundout by Pope, who had pinch hit for Bulock in the 6th inning.  Freshman LHP Aidan Lieu (Rio Americano) kept the Panthers off the board in the 7th and 8th innings and freshman Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian) came into the game from his DH spot to pitch the 9th.  Both Sac City and ARC had a baserunner on in the 9th via a walk but neither team managed to do much with the baserunner.  With Nichols still pitching in the 10th Sac City had a small rally thanks to a pair of one out walks but they couldn't advance the runners past second base.  In the bottom half of the 10th sophomore 2B Jayden Reynolds (Bella Vista) led off with a single, his second hit of the day.  Nichols then singled to left to move Reynolds to second base.  After Pope's first attempt at a sacrifice bunt went foul, he swung away at the next pitch and chopped a ground ball through the left side for the game winning hit to score Reynolds.

The two teams will play again tomorrow at Union Stadium on the campus of Sacramento City College at 2:00 pm before returning to Beaver Field on Friday for game 3 of the series, also at 2:00 pm.
