PANTHERS RETURN THE FAVOR, WALK OFF BEAVERS 9-8 IN 10TH INNING

PANTHERS RETURN THE FAVOR, WALK OFF BEAVERS 9-8 IN 10TH INNING

The first 7 innings of Thursday's BIG 8 Conference game between American River College and the host Sac City Panthers flew by as starting pitchers Joey Guarienti (Vista del Lago) for ARC and Brady Wilson for Sac City were in complete command.  The score was tied 2-2 going into the 8th inning and Guarienti had allowed just three hits and Wilson just two.  For Wilson, one of the hits he allowed was and RBI double after a walk to 3B Bryce Sabatke (River City) who picked up his team leading 9th double of the season.  The Beavers other hit was a solo home run by CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) who homered onto the softball field over the right field fence at Union Stadium.  The 8th inning was wild as the Beavers scored 6 times, with the go ahead run scoring on a bases loaded hit by pitch by DH Cameron Johnson (Yuba City).  After another run was walked in 1B Lance Sabatke doubled in 2 more runs to put ARC up 6-4.  The icing on the cake should have been Jonas Dyas' (Folsom) 2 run single to left, giving ARC an 8-2 lead with just 6 outs to go.  Sac City answered right back, scoring 4 runs in the 8th, three off of RHP Donny Supat (Yuba City) and one off of Kaden Clive (Delta).  With Clive still in trouble in the 8th Dylan Westbrook came in from CF to record a strikeout for the final out of the 8th.  In the 9th after retiring the leadoff batter Westbrook walked Sac City's SS, then allowed a two run, game tying home run to Tyson Mayberry.  As the Beavers were unable to score in the 10th Sac City got the leadoff batter on via base hit, then failed on a sacrifice bunt attempt, popping it up to Lance Sabatke at first base.  The next batter however did get a bunt down, moving the runner over to second with two outs.  A soft line drive to center was enough to easily score the runner from second capping a second straight extra-inning walk off victory in the three game series.  The rubber match is set for Friday at 2:00 pm at Beaver Field.
