BEAVERS TAKE SERIES FROM MODESTO WITH 8-2 WIN

American River College claimed their third BIG 8 Conference series victory of the season with an 8-2 victory over Modesto JC on Friday at Beaver Field. Freshman Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) went 7+ innings of shutout ball on Friday, allowing 5 hits while striking out 6. Freshman LHP Quincey Carr (Whitney) came on in the 8th to bail Westbrook out of a two runners on, no out jam by getting a double play followed by a fly out to end the threat. Carr got into his own jam in the 9th, by walking a pair and allowing a single to load the bases. Freshman Ethan Palumbo (Antelope) came on in relief of Carr and almost worked his magic to keep the shut out intact. Palumbo struck out the first two batters he faced but then allowed a two run single up the middle on a 2-2 count before striking out the final batter to secure the win for the Beavers.
ARC's offense got going early and often as they jumped on MJC's starter quickly. After 3B Bryce Sabatke (River City) reached on a one out error, 2B Jayden Reynolds (Bella Vista) singled. Freshman 1B Lance Sabatke (River City) then singled home his brother Bryce to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. ARC essentially blew the game open in the 2nd inning, scoring 5 times to put the Beavers up 6-0. Bryce Sabatke had a two run single which was followed by a two run triple to right center for Reynolds. Lance Sabatke then singled home Reynolds to chase MJC's starter from the game. After a scoreless 3rd inning Reynolds hit a sacrifice fly in the 4th to put ARC up 7-0. The Beavers got their final run in the 5th thanks to a bases loaded hit by pitch by freshman C Eli Campbell (Cordova). Campbell had a good day behind the plate as well, throwing out a runner at second trying to advance on a ball in the dirt and also picking off a runner at first.
The Beavers wrap up the regular season with a three game series against Cosumnes River College. The Beavers will be at CRC on Tuesday and Friday at 2:00 pm and at Beaver Field on Thursday for the season home finale, also at 2:00 pm. Cosumnes River's coaching staff includes a couple of former Beaver players, Scotty Haynes who played at ARC in 1999 and 2000 and was part of ARC's only Final Four team, and Preston Vancil who played for the Beavers in 2006 & 07 and was part of the Beavers coaching staff for 11 seasons.
