Football Opens the 2024 Season With A Road Win Over #25 College of the Sequoias

The American River College Football program opened the 2024 season on the road at #25 College of the Sequoias on Saturday.

The Beavers, who enter the season ranked #4 in the state of California, took on a tough College of the Sequoias program on a day that saw temperatures easily hit triple digits.  However, the Beavers proved to be prepare for the challenges and brought home a 35-18 victory.

Defensively, the Beavers would limit College of the Sequoias to just 44 rushing yards and forced three turnovers, including an interception returned 63 yards for a touchdown by Brevin AmigaMarQuay King-Johnson would also add an interception for the defense.  Defensive back Antonio Williams and linebacker Edgar Montes lead the Beavers with 9 tackles each.  Defensive lineman Jonathan Correa and linebacker Diallo Washington would each add a sack, while defenive lineman Melikai Red had two tackles for loss.

Offensively, running back Elias Brown would put the Beavers on the board with 49 yard touchdown run in the first quarter.  College of Sequoias would respond with a 9 yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7.  However, the Beavers would answer Sequoias response with a 46 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jett Harris to receiver Jadon Anderson in the first quarter.  Sequoias would kick a 32 yard field goal in the second quarter to cut the Beavers lead to 14-10 going into halftime.

Coming out of the half, the Beavers would come out and control the third quarter.  Limiting the College of the Sequoias offensive, while adding a 38 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jett Harris to receiver Omari Baker and a 25 yard touchdown pass from Jett Harris to Jadon Anderson.

With a 28-10 lead in the fourth quarter, the Sequoias would score and add a two-point conversion with twelve mintues to play to cut the Beavers lead to 28-18.  With Sequoias driving again in the fourth quarter, the Beavers would seal the game game, 35-18, when defenisve back Brevin Amiga interecepted Sequoias in stride and returned it for a touchdown.

With the win, the Beavers are 1-0 on the season and will prepare to host Diablo Valley College in their home opener on Saturday, September 14th, at 1:00 PM.
