Football Drops a Heartbreaker at #7 College of San Mateo

The American River College football program dropped a heartbreaker at #7 College of San Mateo, 17-14, on Saturday.
After falling behind 14-0 at halftime, the Beavers responded with a strong third quarter. Akil Shohan capped off a 12 play 65 yard opening second half drive with a 2 yard run to cut San Mateo's lead to 14-7. The Beavers would follow this up with a great special teams play on kickoff to give the ball right back to the offiense at San Mateo's 20 yard line. Jett Harris would lead a 3 play drive that was capped off with a 15 yard touchdown strike to receiver Jadon Anderson.
With the score tied at 14-14, the Beavers could not take advantage of another turnover forced by their punt team unit in the fourth quarter. However, San Mateo would respond with a 6 play drive that saw their kicker convert a 51 yard field goal to give them back the lead at 17-14. Late in the fourth quarter, the Beavers would drive the ball two times deep into San Mateo territory but could not convert them into points and ultimately led to a final score of 17-14.
Defensively, the Beavers would hold San Mateo to 229 yards of total offense and force two interceptions. With the loss the Beavers drop to 1-3 on the season and will prepare to travel to take on their fifth straight ranked opponent, Modesto Junior College, on Saturday, October 5th, at 1 PM.
