Football Picks Up Road Win Over #7 Modesto Junior College

Football Picks Up Road Win Over #7 Modesto Junior College

Coming off of three straight games that saw the American River College Football program suffer losses by a single score against ranked opponents, the Beavers seeked to bounce back into the win column before the bye week and conference play begins.

Needless to say, mission accomplished as the Beavers picked up a hard fought road victory against #7 Modesto Junior College.  The Beavers defense was able to hold an explosive Modesto offensive to just 46% efficiency on thrird down and was able to force two key turnovers.  Brevin Amiga led the Beavers defense with 8 tackles and a sack.

Offensively, the Beavers was able to jump out to a 7-0 advantage in the first quarter after quarterback Jett Harris was able to connect with receiver Omari Baker for the 11 yard touchdown.  Kicker London Richards was able to expand the Beavers lead to 10-0 after converting a 35 yard field goal.

Modesto would respond with 18 yard touchdown in the second quarter to cut the Beavers lead to 10-6 (extra point was failed).  However, the Beavers would close out the second quarter strong with a 5 play 56 yard drive that was capped off by a 11 yard touchdown pass from Jett Harris to tight tend Dylan Fear, giving the Beavers a 17-6 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter Modesto would score touchdowns on two straight possessions to take a 20-17 lead going into the fourth quarter.  Having been in this position before, the Beavers would respond with a 11 play 80 yard drive that saw running back Akil Sohan score a two yard touchdown and give the lead back to the Beavers at 24-20.  The Beavers would then respond with a 2 play 33 yard drive that saw running back rush for an impressive 29 yard touchdown run that sealed the game and gave the Beavers a 31-20 victory.

With the win the win the Beavers close out non-conference play 2-3 and will prepare to begin conference play in two weeks at home as they host Shasta College at 1 PM on Saturday, October 19th.
