Beavers Shutout Gladiators in Highly Competitive Match
The score was deceiving, as the Beavers won each match in the closely contested matchup against the Gladiators from Chabot. In the doubles, the Beavers swept 3 very tough matches. Younes Kodiji/Tommy Luu fought back from an early break to take a commanding lead at 7-4. However the Gladiator #1 tandem of Roger Wen and Keegan Yap broke back and held, before Kodiji/Luu held to close out the match at 8-6. At #2 Stephen Guenard/Sam Hall had a back and forth battle with the Chabot #2 team of Jay Pandit/Ben Truong. The Beavers were able to break and hold at 7-7 to win the match in a contest that had many momentum swings. Finally, at #3, Micah Erwin/Kaison Lum took the court for the Beavers and took an early lead, before Noah Moeckelman/Sam Smith won 3 straight games to make the match competitive. In the final game Lum served well and Erwin cleaned up at the net to clinch the doubles sweep for the Beavers.
The singles matches were no less competitive. Kodiji put on a strong performance at #1, beating Coast Conference top seed, Roger Wen, by the score of 6-3, 6-2. Hall (#2) won a back and forth contest with big-hitting Chabot #2, Jay Pandit, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. The other matches were won in straight sets, but each had moments of uncertainty. The Beavers held their cool and closed out each match in true Beaver Magic form. ARC will next take on NCAA DIII powerhouse, UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, March 16th.
