Beavers Split Matches On Bay Area Road Trip

ARC Men's Tennis made the trip to the Bay Area to compete against NorCal community college Cabrillo College, and NCAA Division II program, Menlo College. On the first match of the trip, the Beavers cruised to a 9-0 victory. ARC did not lose more than a single game in any of the matches except for #1 singles and #1 doubles, which both were very competitive. At #1 singles, Gavin Sonntag took on highly ranked junior player, Jack Van Ness. Sonntag battled back from a set down to take the victory 2-6, 6-3, 10-6. The ARC #1 weathered the early storm from Van Ness, and got his teeth into the match. Once the match was evened at a set a piece, Sonntag was able to outlast Van Ness in a series of physical points, and finally pull away at the end of the match-tiebreak.

On the second day of the trip, ARC faced off against NCAA Division II, Menlo College. Menlo, in their second year at the NCAA level, has built a very solid program under coach Ben Cabell. The Beavers competed well, remaining on serve late into #2 and #3 doubles, but were ultimately broken late in each match, falling 6-3 and 6-4 respectively. In the singles ARC had two standout performers in Enrique Silveira (#1) and Tarang Sharma (#4). Silveira went toe to toe with the Menlo #1, Robin Mcalpine, getting broken late in each set for a 6-4, 6-4 loss. Sharma played a very physical and steady match versus Menlo #4, Ian Ramiro Perez. Sharma was down in each set early, but battled back to win back to back  tiebreak sets, 7-6(2), 7-6(5). "These are the type of matches we need at this point in the season to better prepare us for the top California community colleges we will be facing down the road." Explained coach Bo Jabery Madison. "If we can learn where we need to get better from a loss at this early in the year, it is a win for our team because we will be better down the road in the postseason, when it really matters."
