Women's Water Polo Takes 3rd in the Big 8 Conference and Advances to the NorCal Championships

The American River College Women's Water Polo program capped off an exciting Big 8 Conference Tournament by upsetting higher seeds Fresno City College and Diablo Valley College over the weekend.
The Beavers started off the weekend on Friday defeating Fresno City College 9-5. Heidi Sherman led the way for the Beavers with three goals, while Zowie Stone-Esparza and Claire Contreras added two goals each. With the win the Beavers advanced to the semi-final, but would fall to San Joaquin Delta College in the Saturday morning match by a final score of 16-4.
The loss would set a match for 3rd place against Diablo Valley College on Saturday afternoon. In a thrilling match which saw both teams exchange leads several times, the Beavers would gather momentum in overtime to score two goals while keeping Diablo Valley from scoring, leading to a 10-8 overtime victory for the Beavers.
The Beavers strong performance in the Big 8 Tournament resulted in a 5th seed in the upcoming NorCal Championships that will be held at Las Positas College this weekend (November 15th and 16th). The Beavers will open NorCals against Merced College who is the #4 seed.
