The women’s team competed at Toro Park Invitational in Salinas on Friday, October 6.  The event was hosted by Hartnell College.  Jayde King, Alanna Laverty, and Mary Nolan had a conservative start due to the warm temperatures in the mid-90's.  All three ladies had a strong last mile after the last hill to move up in the field more than 30 places, with Laverty earning a medal in 13th.  In Laverty’s post-race interview, she said that in her last half mile she “took one step at a time...with her last thought being left foot first” at the finish with her timing chip foot stepping past the finish line in a final sprint to be in medal contention.  King finished in 31^st place, followed by Nolan in 32^nd.  Afterwards it was a treat to spend the weekend in Monterey for long run along the coast and a cool swim at Asilomar beach.
