Women's Cross Country Spends Weekend in Monterey Racing and Camping

The women’s team competed at Toro Park Invitational in Salinas on Friday, October 6.  The event was hosted by Hartnell College.  Jayde King, Alanna Laverty, and Mary Nolan had a conservative start due to the warm temperatures in the mid-90's.  All three ladies had a strong last mile after the last hill to move up in the field more than 30 places, with Laverty earning a medal in 13th.  In Laverty’s post-race interview, she said that in her last half mile she “took one step at a time...with her last thought being left foot first” at the finish with her timing chip foot stepping past the finish line in a final sprint to be in medal contention.  King finished in 31st place, followed by Nolan in 32nd.  Afterwards it was a treat to spend the weekend in Monterey for long run along the coast and a cool swim at Asilomar beach.
