Beavers clinch series win over Sac City

Beavers clinch series win over Sac City

For the second time in the past four years American River College has won the season series over Sac City College.  The Beavers took two out of three in 2015 and have taken the first two games of the three game series this year.  Collin Carriger (Bella Vista, pictured) pitched a gem for the Beavers, throwing 8 2/3 innings and leaving with a 4-1 lead.  Carriger retired the first two batters in the 9th, then hit a little bit of trouble, hitting the next two batters and being relieved by RHP Freddy May (Folsom)  May walked the first batter he faced in the 9th to load the bases, then gave up a single to right to make the score 4-3.  After he walked the next batter he was replaced by freshman Nick Perry (Rio Linda) who allowed an infield single up the middle to tie the game but SS Matt Clarke (Bella Vista) saved the game by diving and knocking the ball down then throwing out the game winning run at the plate.  The teams traded zeroes in the 10th and 11th innings, then A.R.C. got a rally going in the 12th.  A.R.C. entered the 12th with just four hits through 11 innings but 2B Christian Murua (Grant) led off with a bloop single to right.  1B Lane Field (Whitney) then walked and LF Logan Hall (Oakdale) laid down a perfect bunt down the third base line for an infield single to load the bases.  With one out 3B Will Floyd (Rocklin) lofted a fly ball to left deep enough to score Murua and put the Beavers up 5-4.  Perry worked a 3-up, 3-down 12th inning to earn the win.

A.R.C. and Sac City are scheduled to finish their three game set at Beaver Field on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. but rain may throw a wrench into the scheduling.
