Bejarano's HR powers Beavers to series win over CRC

American River College earned the series win over cross-town rival Cosumnes River College by defeating the Hawks 5-2 on a rare Sunday afternoon game.  The game was shifted to Sunday because of the storms in the area this past weekend.  On the mound Hayden Josephson (Granite Bay) was once again efficient, throwing 7 innings and scattering 11 hits, but he did not walk a batter.  Josephson picked up his 5th win of the season, the first Beaver pitcher with 5 wins in a season since Matt Gunter (Bella Vista) earned 7 wins in 2015.  Josephson is now tied for 2nd in the state in wins as well as all alone in 2nd in innings pitched on the season.

The Beavers got on the board early thanks to a bases loaded, one out sac fly by freshman C Casey DeMello (Valley Christian).  Sophomore RF Justin Bejarano (Elk Grove) then unloaded on a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for his first career collegiate home run to put the Beavers up 4-0 in the 2nd inning.  The Hawks answered back, scoring both of their runs in the bottom of the 2nd off of Josephson.  The score would hold there until the 6th when the Beavers scored on a Will Floyd (Rocklin) single to right in which he plated freshman CF Logan Hall (Oakdale) who had singled and moved up on a balk.  Floyd advanced to second on the throw home, but then he was cut down at the plate to end the inning as freshman DH Ray Henry (Colfax) singled to right.

Sophomore RHP Fred May (Folsom) worked an uneventful 3 up- 3 down 8th inning and freshman RHP Nick Perry (Rio Linda) faced four batters in the 9th, picking up a called third strike to end the game and pick up his 3rd save of the season.  The Beavers move on to play Sierra College in a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday series starting this week.  Tuesday and Saturday will be at Sierra while Thursday will be at home at Beaver Field.
