HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers pounded by Delta 12-2

Beavers pounded by Delta 12-2

In their final home conference game of 2018 the American River College Baseball team dropped game 2 and the series to top-ranked Delta College 12-2 on Thursday.  RHP Collin Carriger (Bella Vista) retired the first two batters he faced, then gave up a double, two-run home run and a single before getting out of the first inning.  The Beavers responded by scoring in the bottom of the first, but it took three singles and an error by Delta's third baseman to bring CF Logan Hall (Oakdale) home.  Delta extended the lead to 4-1 in the second again after Carriger retired the first two batters he faced.  After a two-out single, 3B Ray Henry (Colfax) misplayed a groundball to extend the inning.  After a couple of stolen bases a two-out single made the score 4-1.  Delta added a run in the 3rd as well, then blew the game open with 4 in the 4th inning to chase Carriger.  Freshman Chris Nam (Kalani, HI) came on in relief and did not allow a run until Delta scored three unearned runs in the top of the 8th

Offensively the Beavers again swung the bats well, scratching out 11 hits.  A.R.C. loaded the bases in the 2nd and 3rd innings but could not score.  They had runners at 1st and 2nd in the 5th inning and 2B Christian Murua (Grant) laced a two-out triple to right in the 6th but again, no runs came out of it.  Finally in the 7th the Beavers got a two-out hit by SS Matt Clarke (Bella Vista) to score Ray Henry.  The Beavers got a one out walk in the 9th by 1B Daniel Armendarez (Antelope) followed by a single from PH Ryan Burdick (Wheatland) to put runners at 1st and 2nd, but a groundout and a strikeout ended the game.

American River and Delta will finish their series on Saturday in Stockton beginning at 1:00 p.m.  That will conclude the conference slate for the Beavers who will finish the season with a non-conference game on Tuesday at home against Gavilan College at 2:30 p.m.
