Beavers win 2019 opener behind Langley, Taylor

Beavers win 2019 opener behind Langley, Taylor

The 2019 season got off to a nice start on Friday as the 2019 version of the A.R.C. baseball team defeated West Valley College 7-3.  Freshman RHP Aiden Taylor (Rio Americano) threw five innings and struck out 6 with no walks in earning his first collegiate win.  He struggled a bit in the 2nd inning, giving up 3 of the 4 hits he allowed, including back to back doubles, but he cruised the rest of the way.  Sophomore RHP Greysen Pulsipher (Cosumnes Oaks) threw a scoreless 7th, 8th and 9th innings to pick up his first save.

The Beavers offense stole the show early, putting up 5 runs in the 1st inning as they tallied 6 hits and batted around in the first inning of the season.  Sophomore 1B Steven Langley (El Camino, pictured) had a two run single and sophomore C Casey DeMello (Valley Christian) lined a two run double to left to get the Beavers up early.  Langley added an RBI groundout in the 2nd inning then homered to lead off the 5th.  It was A.R.C.'s first home run at Beaver Field since Lydell Moseby homered against Delta College on March 22, 2011.  Almost 8 years between home runs at home!  The Beavers have homered over 20 times on the road since then.  Langley added a single in the 7th inning for his 3rd hit of the game.  He was the only player to have a multi-hit game, as 9 different players got hits for the Beavers.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow in Saratoga at West Valley College to conclude their two game series.
