Offense slows down but Jacobson pitches Beavers to win

After suffering their first shutout loss of the season on Saturday the American River College baseball team bounced right back and picked up their second shutout win of the season at Hartnell College on Saturday.  In the first game the Beavers managed just five hits but had a couple of two out scoring opportunities that they could not cash in.  RHP Aiden Taylor (Rio Americano) pitched well as he retired the first 10 batters he faced.  He did not allow a run through 7 innings, only throwing 75 pitches to that point.  In the 8th however, he hit the leadoff batter and as the next batter bunted the ball up the first base line Taylor slipped coming off the mound putting runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs.  After a sacrifice bunt put runners at 2nd & 3rd Taylor was lifted for LHP Ryan Marcoccia (Del Campo) who after an intentional walk got a grounder to first in which the lead runner was forced out at the plate.  With two outs sophomore RHP Nick Perry (Rio Linda) got a shallow fly to right but it dropped in front of RF Dodger DeGan (Del Oro) to allow two runs to score.

In the 2nd game the Beavers threatened early as freshman 3B Dillen Farrell (Antelope) singled to right with two outs but RF Gideon Branch (Rio Americano) was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.  The Beavers didn't do much at the plate after that until the 7th inning, but sophomore RHP Hayden Josephson (Granite Bay, pictured) made sure the Beavers stayed in the game.  Josephson threw a 7 inning complete game shutout in which only two balls were hit out of the infield, one was a flyout to right.  He struck out five and only allowed two hits.  In the 7th inning sophomore 1B Steven Langley (El Camino) led off with a double off of the left field fence.  After 2B Ray Henry (Colfax) failed to get him to 3rd on a bunt and Gideon Branch flew out to right, Dillen Farrell came up a lined a double to left to score Langley.  Sophomore C Casey DeMello (Valley Christian) then came up and singled to left to score Farrell and give Josephson a two run cushion which he would use to pick up his 2nd win of the year.

The Beavers are scheduled to play Butte College in a three game series this week beginning on Thursday at Beaver Field.
