Beavers drop Game Two at Sac City

In a game that was much closer than the score would indicate the American River College baseball team dropped game two and thus the season series to cross-town rival Sac City College 7-2 at Sac City.  Sophomore RHP Collin Carriger (Bella Vista) threw well but was bitten by some bad luck and shoddy outfield play in picking up th loss.  Freshman RHP Drake Vestbie (Reno, pictured) came on in relief and threw two innings, allowing a run on a misplayed fly ball with two outs.  The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the 5th inning when they got runners to 2nd and 3rd with nobody out but failed to score thanks to a strikeout and a comebacker to the pitcher, followed by a fly out to deep right by LF Cole Hurtarte (Whitney).  After the Beavers had given up a couple more runs and trailed 4-0 in the 7th A.R.C. loaded the bases with nobody out thanks to a pair of walks and a bunt base hit by RF Ian McIsaac (Davis).  1B Steven Langley (El Camino) scored a=on a bases loaded walk by C Casey DeMello (Valley Christian).  CF Andrew Danko (Eaglecrest, CO) then scored on a wild pitch.  After DH Gideon Branch (Rio Americano) got hit by a pitch to reload the bases Hurtarte hit a line drive down the third base line but the third baseman made a lunging catch then took one step towards the bag to double up McIsaac.  After 2B Garrett Glynn (Del Oro) reached on a chopper up the middle to reload the bases SS Lane Field (Whitney) grounded out to end the threat.

Sac City put the game away in the bottom of the 8th after sophomore RHP Austin Jacobs (River City) walked a pair of hitters, Sac City's leadoff hitter Anthony Galati launched the first pitch he saw over the right field fence to put the Panthers up 7-2.

The final game of the series will be played Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Beaver Field.
