HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Despite 13 walks Beavers can't avoid sweep

The American River College baseball team walked a season high 13 times on Friday against cross-town rival Sacramento City College but managed only four hits and dropped the final game of the series 7-5 at Beaver Field.  In one of the stranger games in recent memory, the first 11 batters that A.R.C. sent to the plate did not put the ball in play.  There were 7 walks and 4 strikeouts in the first inning and a third.  The Beavers did manage to get three runs in the first as a wild pitch scored leadoff hitter Cole Hurtarte (Whitney) and CF Andrew Danko (Eaglecrest, CO) and C Casey DeMello (Valley Christian) drew bases loaded walks.  The lead didn't last long though as Sac City touched up sophomore Hayden Josephson (Granite Bay) in the 3d inning as the first four batters got hits, including a pair of doubles to re-take the lead 4-3.  Josephson settled down after that however and didn't allow another run before bowing out after the 7th inning.  He struck out 9 on the day, walking 2 but allowing 8 hits, 7 in the first 3 innings.

A.R.C. had plenty of chances to score as they had runners on in every inning except for the 4th and the 7th.  They finally broke through after Sac City scored two unearned runs off of sophomore Nick Perry (Rio Linda) in the 8th inning with 2B Garrett Glynn (Del Oro) driving a single to right to score two and close the deficit to one, 6-5.    Sac City got an insurance run off of Perry in the 9th to make the score 7-5.  A.R.C. did not go quietly though as LF Nolan Johnston (Rio Americano) doubled in the left center gap to lead off the 9th but the next three batters couldn't get anything going and the Beavers fell once again.

A.R.C. continues BIG 8 Conference play next week with home games versus Sierra College on Tuesday and Saturday and a game at Sierra on Thursday.
