HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers keep it close but Sierra pulls away late

An already long season got longer Tuesday as American River College dropped the series opener to Sierra College 9-3 at Beaver Field.  Sophomore Austin Jacobs got his first career start and pitched really well, holding the hot-hitting Wolverines scoreless through the first three innings.  Sierra got two runs in the 4th to tie the game after the Beavers scored single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead.  The first run scored on a sacrifice fly by SS Lane Field (Whitney) and the second run scored with two outs as RF Cole Hurtarte (Whitney) reached on an error with the bases loaded.

Sierra then took the lead in the 5th with a run off of Jacobs.  They extended their lead in the 7th as a two-out triple off of reliever Ryan Marcoccia (Del Campo) who was making his first appearance since taking a line drive off the forearm against Folsom Lake College on March 1st.  With the score 4-2 in the 8th inning Sierra added a pair of runs in the top half of the inning, but A.R.C. got one right back as 3B Sonny Ledford (Rio Americano) hit a sac fly to score DH Garrett Glynn (Del Oro) who had reached on an error.

Sierra broke the game open in the 9th though as they got a sac fly to make the score 7-3 with two outs, but a single and a two run home run by 1B Matt Lopez pushed the score to 9-3 and out of reach for the Beavers.  The two teams meet again in Rocklin at Sierra College on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
