HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Farrell's big day still not enough for Beavers

Farrell's big day still not enough for Beavers

Freshman 2B Dillen Farrell (Antelope, pictured) had the best day of his college career on Friday at Santa Rosa as he hit a two-run homer-the first of his career- and he had an RBI single driving in all three of the A.R.C. runs but the Beavers still fell to the Bear Cubs 4-3.  Sophomore RHP Hayden Josephson (Granite Bay) threw a complete game in the loss, going 8 innings and throwing 98 pitches.  He struck out 7 and allowed 7 hits.  He only had three- 3 ball counts the whole game.  In fact, he threw just 5 pitches in the first inning, 6 in the 4th, 9 in the 5th and 6 again in the 6th.  The 2nd inning was trouble however, as he hit the first batter then walked the second.  After a single drove in the first run of the game, followed by another RBI single, he settled down but did allow a two out single to put Santa Rosa up 3-0.  A.R.C. closed the gap in the 4th inning after 1B Steven Langley (El Camino) drew a one out walk Dillen Farrell unloaded on a 3-1 pitch and cleared the left-field fence at spacious Cook-Sypher Field.  Farrell tied the game in the 6th with a two-out, two strike single to score 3B Sonny Ledford (Rio Americano) who had singled and stole second.  The lead was short lived however as Santa Rosa got a one-out double in the 7th inning, followed by wild pitch to move the runner to 3rd.  A sacrifice fly to center put Santa Rosa ahead for good.  The Beavers out-hit the Bear Cubs 11-7 but A.R.C. hit into a pair of double plays and struck out a season high 16 times on the day.

The two teams will finish their series on Saturday at Beaver Field at 1:00 p.m.
