Beavers Self-Destruct Versus Knights

The Shasta College Knights continued their mastery over American River College on Thursday, winning their 5th straight against the Beavers dating back to a 5-0 A.R.C. win on February 4th, 2017.  On Thursday, the Knights jumped early on several Beavers miscues, scoring four runs in the first and second innings to go up 8-0 early.  Freshman RHP Bennett Ohara (Kennedy) was making his first career start but it didn't last long, just 1 1/3 innings, allowing 7 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks.  The Beavers had a chance to get out of the 2nd inning without allowing a run but on a tailor-made double play ball with the bases loaded sophomore 2B Addison Lueras' (Ponderosa) throw to second sailed over the head of SS DeMarco Hawthorne (Sac High) allowing a pair of runs to score.  Two more runs scored later in the inning as well.

One of the few bright spots from the game was sophomore Eziah Cortez (Palma, Salinas; pictured) had his finest outing as a Beaver, throwing 3 2/3 innings allowing two runs but just one earned.  On the offensive side it took the Beavers a while to get going but they were able to get the game close in the 5th inning when sophomore DH Nolan Johnston (Rio Americano) hit a bases loaded double down the left field line to bring the score to 9-6.  They were not able to get any closer however, and the Beavers dropped to 2-2 on the season.  Sophomore OF Joseph Hayden (Cosumnes Oaks) continued his hot hitting, driving his state leading 4th triple into the right field corner in the 5th inning.

A.R.C. will play defending Golden Valley Conference champion Feather River College on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Beaver Field, then will travel to Redding on Saturday to try and end the Knights 5 game win streak over the Beavers at 1:00 p.m.
