Beavers even series with Shasta on Saturday

Beavers even series with Shasta on Saturday

American River College used a couple of big hits on Saturday to defeat Shasta College in Redding 10-1 to even the season series at one game apiece.  The two teams do not play again this season.  Freshman CF Hayden Erickson (Whitney) got the Beavers on the board first with a leadoff double, then advanced to third on a passed ball.  He then scored on a groundout to second by sophomore LF Joseph Hayden (Cosumnes Oaks) which tied the score at one.  The Beavers took the lead in the 5th  when freshman 1B Brooks Mitchell (Vista del Lago, pictured) singled in Hayden who had reached on a fielder's choice.  Later in the inning with two outs sophomore C Paul Von Zboray (Ponderosa) singled to right center to drive in a pair and extend the lead to 4-1.  Erickson led off the 7th inning with a triple, his first and the team's state leading 5th of the season.  He scored on a wild pitch but the Beavers were able to tack on another run with two outs thanks to a Garrett Glynn (Del Oro) single over the shortstops head to plate Mitchell who had walked.  A.R.C. then broke the game open in the 8th when Mitchell hit his second home run of the season, a towering, three-run shot to center.  He ended the day 3x3 with a home run, 4 RBI, a walk and a hit by pitch.

On the mound freshman RHP Blake Yuyama (Kennedy) had his second straight quality outing, throwing 7 innings, allowing just one run on three hits.  He has allowed just 5 hits over 13 innings so far this season.  The Beavers take a break from games for the next couple of days as they finished a 6 games in 9 days stretch.  The team will return to action on Friday as they go on the road to play at Hartnell College in Salinas at 2:00 p.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. game on Saturday.
