HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers get first home win of season over Solano in extra innings

Beavers get first home win of season over Solano in extra innings

It took a little longer than the A.R.C. Baseball coaching staff thought that it would but the 2020 team was finally able to get a victory at Beaver Field on Friday, downing the Solano College Falcons 5-4 in 10 innings.  The Beavers were held scoreless through the first 4 innings by Solano starter Nate Mandrik, who found out just minutes before the game that he would be starting due to an injury to the projected starter.  American River starter Aiden Taylor (Rio Americano) was a little shaky but still managed to keep the Beavers in the game, allowing three runs in the 3rd inning but keeping the Falcons off the board in his other 5 innings.  He worked out of a bases loaded one out jam in the 6th inning.  He struck out 8 on the day to bring his league leading total to 40, which has him tied for third in the state.   Freshman Wyatt Elmore (Argonaut) threw a scoreless 7th inning but allowed an unearned run in the 8th which allowed Solano to tie the game.  Freshman RHP Christian Lucero (River City) finished the game, including working out of a 1st and 3rd, one out jam in the 10th inning to pick up his second win of the season.  He struck out 4 in 2 2/3 innings.

The Beavers bats took a while to get going but they finally got on the board in the 5th after SS Jonah Ira (Laguna Creek) doubled to lead off the inning then later scored on a sacrifice fly by DH Dodger DeGan (Del Oro).  A.R.C. took the lead in the bottom of the 7th after a one out single by 1B Garrett Glynn (Del Oro) scored sophomore RF Cole Hurtarte (Whitney, pictured) who had reached on an error.  Glynn later scored on a single to left center by sophomore 2B Addison Lueras (Ponderosa).  Lueras then scored on a single to left by CF Josiah Taylor (Alpha Charter) to tie the game.  A.R.C. got runners into scoring position in the 8th and 9th innings but couldn't punch across the game winner until the 10th inning when Hurtarte led off the inning with a triple to left center, his first triple of the season.  Jonah Ira then followed with a shallow fly to right that was not deep enough to score Hurtarte, but the throw from the right fielder skipped away from the catcher allowing Hurtarte to score.

The Beavers begin BIG 8 Conference play on Tuesday at cross-town rival Cosumnes River College at 2:00 p.m.
