Beavers drop Game One to Pirates

Modesto JC Came into Beaver Field as one of the hottest teams in Northern California and though they didn't do a lot, they did enough to defeat American River College 7-5 on Tuesday.  Starter Brian Thomas (Ponderosa) was effective for 7 innings, allowing just two earned runs and he left the game with a 5-3 lead.  The Beavers tied the score at two apiece in the 3rd inning when RF Cole Hurtarte (Whitney, pictured) doubled to left center to drive in two.  A.R.C. took the lead in the 5th with a pair of runs thanks to three straight hits, an RBI single by LF Joseph Hayden (Cosumnes Oaks) and an RBI single by Hurtarte.

A.R.C. took a 5-3 lead into the 8th with closer Christian Lucero (River City) on the mound but three errors in the inning led to a pair of runs allowing the Pirates to tie the game.  With the score still 5-5 in the 9th Modesto got a two out bad hop single over the head of 2B Addison Lueras (Ponderosa) to give MJC the lead.  The Pirates tacked on another run and the Beavers were not able to score in the bottom of the 9th to bring the Beavers home record to 1-6 on the season.  The two teams will meet again on Thursday at Streeter-Aiello Field at 2:00 p.m.
