SACRAMENTO - Ninth-ranked American River College gained a measure of revenge in Saturday's rematch of the NorCal Championship by beating No. 2 College of San Mateo, 18-13, and in the process opened the door for City College of San Francisco, Laney, Ventura and College of the Canyons to move up a spot in the California Community College Sports Information Association poll released on Tuesday.

Fullerton (3-0), coming off an 85-0 rout against Santa Ana, kept its top ranking after relinquishing it for a week. However, the Hornets' 22nd straight victory helped them gain 11 of 13 first-place votes and 258 points as they seek their third straight CCCAA Championship. San Francisco (3-0) grabbed the other two first-place votes to take over for San Mateo (2-1) at No. 2 and edge No. 3 Laney in points, 237-235). Ventura (3-0) and Canyons (3-0) also benefitted from American River's win, tying for fifth with 207 points.

San Mateo edged ARC, 24-21, to claim last year's regional title.

American River (2-1) jumped three spots into sixth while Riverside City (2-1), San Mateo (2-1), Cerritos (3-0) and Southwestern (3-0) complete the top 10. Long Beach City (2-1), Mt. San Antonio (2-1) - which was upset by Chaffey, 13-0, on the road - Butte (2-1), Chabot (3-0) and Bakersfield (2-1) occupy the 10th through 15th spots. Fresno City (1-1), Santa Rosa (2-1), Mt. San Jacinto (3-0), Chaffey (2-1) and Citrus (2-1) finish off the rankings.

Fullerton and CCSF will try to keep their strong starts going but will each have to do it on the road against ranked opponents. The Hornets will travel to face No. 9 Southwestern while the Rams will head over to face No. 13 which is coming off a big 17-8 win at then-No. 9 Fresno City. Canyons will hit the road to face No. 9 Cerritos while No. 7 Riverside travels up for a showdown with No. 11 Long Beach City. No. 8 San Mateo will host No. 16 Fresno City in another matchup of ranked teams.

Big point totals were put up by several ranked teams last weekend, including Fullerton (85), Riverside City (77), Cerritos (65) and Canyons (63), which all eclipsted 60 points. Click here for a complete list of scores.
